rethinking some things

i am thinking about slowing down on my drive to participate in 100 mile events. i am thinking i will take the next couple of years to focus on recoverying and building my speed. i want to see what i can accomplish over 26.2 miles, before i start pounding my body at the big ultra distances. i am starting to experience some very ambitious marathon goals emerging in my heart, and i would like to see what i can do with those goals.

Rob, Sounds like a wise plan. We thought that you were being a little over ambitious in your thinking. But, that is you. One's body cannot take a lot of rapid increase in exercise, especially when one is getting up in years.

We wish you and your family a safe trip to Cinci, and you a good race Sunday. Hope you get to see lots of cousins. We have signed up to get your race times sent to us live Sunday.
Love ya, Dad and Mom

i am still ambitious - but i am just changing the focus - instead of focusing on going long right now - i am going to focus on getting back sub-6 pace and shooting for an entire marathon at that pace :)

"getting up in years"? humbug! :)

thanks for the well wishing - and that is awesome about you guys signing up for the live updates - i appreciate the support.

love you guys,
robert

Robert -

Quite shocking to hear if I may say so. But we each have our own journey to be on, so no one should condemn you fro your decision. God bless, actually.

One question, though: road or trail marathons? From the times you're talking about, I assume you're referring to road marathons.

Either way, good luck, brother. I still always look forward to reading your blogs. To me, it's not about the distance; it's about a human being pushing him/herself beyond their own limits.

Be well, my friend.

i intend to continue to participate in both - but the goal i have in mind of running a marathon at 10 mph - that might require a flat course like chicago :)

part of this journey for me is about shaping what i got here into a masterpiece of sorts ;) not only am i hoping for an endurance masterpiece - i am hoping for a pretty fast masterpiece :) i am already really encouraged about how my body has responded those far to my shaping efforts.

thanks for the encouragement brother - i still intend to be participating in some 50k trail events - but i am thinking i will be putting events like the raccoon on hold for now.
